Review by Soundblab Alternative Music of upcoming new record, "Icaro Nouveau"
"Icaro Nouveau is a dark tango, a gothic circus, a dirty, melodic cacophony you just have to love. Based in classic Latin American folk, J Hacha De Zola created his very own, unique blend of Gothic Norteño and Tango. Imagine Los Tigres del Norte combined with The Tiger Lillies ."…

The Big Takeover has a special sonic treat for those of you who are visiting the site this weekend – a premiere on a Saturday – of a dangerously delightful, whirling, and rhythmic cha-cha-cha track called, appropriately, “On A Saturday” by PASTE-approved musical “wild man” J Hacha De Zola…

Video Premiere: J Hacha De Zola – Syn Illusión
Hacha De Zola – Released his four song E.P. Syn Illusión on November 16 of this year. The E.P. which is entirely in Spanish, is raising eyebrows for not only his fans but the industry as well. Heavy on the 80’s synth sound, the lead single and title of the album, is intriguing. It’s as if the late Michael Hutchence decided to partner with Joy Division and create a driving, emotional opus…

Syn Illusión EP Release
“Syn Illusión” an original, all-Spanish language EP that Hacha De Zola will release on Nov. 16th via the artist’s Caballo Negro label, could very well open this man that UTNE described as “the kind of alluring character found in old children’s books” to an audience as unexpected as this release is itself…

A little over a year ago, BLURT spotlighted New Jersey’s J Hacha de Zola’s second album, Picaro Obscuro, premiering the remarkable “In Curtains” song, his Tom Waits-meets-Nick Cave sound as unique as any we’d heard in 2016. Now comes the new Antipatico, which apparently translates from Spanish as “unfriendly.”…

Daily Dose: J Hacha de Zola, "Lightning Rod Salesman"
The artist known as J Hacha de Zola is a wild man in the vein of such fire breathing artists like Screamin’ Jay Hawkins and Captain Beefheart. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to find him emerging from a coffin onstage or sending his backing band through the conceptual wringer while writing songs in a secluded location…

Premiere: The Chaos and Fury of J Hacha de Zola’s “March of the Hollowmen”
Dark, driven and intense, New Jersey’s J Hacha de Zola describes his latest song as “a dirge – a march – a funerary march, almost – an ostentatious obscene lamentation full of noise & fury – anxiety – fear – grit.” Indeed, “March of the Hollowmen” carries within it a fantastic power that is as carnival-like and playful as it is possessed and cacophonic. Welcome to the circus of life…

Premiere: J Hacha de Zola spaces out on the laid-back “No Situation”
On October 6, singer/songwriter J Hacha de Zola will release his third album, Antipatico. The album follows two Beefheart-inspired records of mutant blues rock, and this time around he’s joined by guest artists such as Tom Waits collaborator Ralph Carney, Morphine’s Dana Colley and The Klezmatics’ Frank London. Today, Treble is premiering the new single from the album, titled “No Situation.” It’s a bluesy and atmospheric track, with a spacious and laid-back sensibility, de Zola citing influences such as Lee Hazelwood and Leonard Cohen. The former in particular is a strong parallel, the horns and lightly psychedelic guitars echoing Hazelwood’s idiosyncratic ’60s and ’70s productions. J Hacha de Zola released a statement about the track…

J Hacha De Zola Covers Ariana Grande Song as a Tom Waits-Esq Barroom Roar (Premiere)
We get a lot of Ariana Grande covers submitted to us, and they tend to follow a formula: a young woman showcases her best arena-filling belt on YouTube. Like Mariah Carey before her, Ariana Grande songs offer an occasion to show off one’s vocal chops. Some of the belting is pretty good, but big, powerful singing doesn’t make an Ariana Grande cover any different than an Ariana Grande original. But now, finally, we have a musician taking a very different approach….
